Thousand islands – Pari island is one of the majestic Thousand islands but unlike Macan island, Pari has a more humble nuance due to the fact that it is a tourism village run by the locals. This particular destination is ideal for backpackers. Whether you´re here for a day trip or two, the sweet escape offers a great unforgettable experience.
Where is it and how to get there?
Pari island is the closest one to Jakarta. There are two ways you can reach Pari. First, all you need to do is take Taxi, online transportation or bus to MuaraAngke in Kaliadem port. Public ferries and traditional boats take 2 hours to reach Pari and it costs IDR 45,000. However, they have no fix schedule so add a little buffer time to your schedule.
Don’t like that idea? You still have a second, more expensive choice if you board from Marina, Ancol. The fast boat costs IDR 125,000 per person (excluding Ancol entrance fee) and the trip normally lasts an hour but please note that this is also a public transportation that might make a few stops on the other islands to take passengers as it carries 180 persons maximum. Consider this as a mini tour around the archipelago!
What to see and do?
- Snorkeling and island hopping
The calm sea has an inviting atmosphere. During the day, tourists would flock the beach. This is the perfect time to snorkel and have the best underwater adventure. With the excellent water visibility, the biodiversity in Pari island is amazing!
Rent a bike and circle the island for the whole day (IDR 20,000 per 24 hours). This could be your transport to anywhere within the island.
- Leisure walk
It´s pretty convenient to walk around. During low tide, you can even cross the sea to the neighboring islands, such as Star beach and Virgin beach.
- Taste the local food
From squid pickles to breadfruit chips – some of the unfamiliar foods that surprisingly taste good! Some warungs offer local cuisines such as Gado-Gado, Ketoprak, Fried chicken and Indonesia´s famous instant noodle, Indomie. Some dots of cart by the beach sell traditional snacks, too. The taste aren´t special but you are free to bring food from home.
- Sunset watching
In case you miss the sunsets lately, the unspoiled beach has breathtaking kaleidoscopic sunset. This is one of the most favorite things to do in Pari island.
At night, the beach turns to a camp ground. Local visitors would camp on rented tents. Each tent costs about IDR 100,000 and each person is charged IDR 35,000.
Where to stay ?
Pari island is one of the most affordable vacations in PulauSeribu. Most of the accommodations are provided by the locals. So don’t be surprised when your hostel is a room in their home. The cheapest homestay is around IDR 200,000 but nothing goes above IDR 600,000.
Sadly, Pari Island does not have any ATM center. So bring extra cash with you.
